Coupon Myths

Some people want to dislike coupons so much they’ll come up with just about anything to not use them.

1. ONLY POOR PEOPLE USE COUPONS

Contrary to what some may think, according to statistics, people with lower income (under $25,000/year) are less likely to use coupons.  Middle class, middle-aged people with a college background are the most likely to use coupons. *NOTE* It seems to be becoming hip/cool/in thing to do lately.

2.  PEOPLE WHO USE COUPONS, SPEND MORE THAN PEOPLE WHO DON’T

If that’s the case they aren’t doing it the right way. You have to combine coupons with sale items.  Don’t buy everything just, because you have a coupon that’s not the right way to do it.  You will go broke if you do it that way.  Unless it’s super cheap or free, then you should buy it.

3.  YOU SHOULDN’T CLIP COUPONS FOR THINGS YOU DON’T USE.

Not true! Clip it and you will be surprised at how many items you can get for nothing when you have extra coupons with you that you don’t use.  You can trade, give to family, friends, food banks many things.

4.  GENERIC ITEMS ARE CHEAPER

It’s true most of the time generic items are cheaper, but once you combine a sale and coupons it’s more expensive to buy the generic item.

5.  THERE’S ONLY COUPONS FOR JUNK FOOD

Although there are a lot of coupons for junk food there are still many coupons for healthy food too.  One good thing I have been stocking up on is frozen veggies.  I use to only buy fresh produce, but after so much of it going bad on me I started buying more frozen.  It’s really cheaper and fresher since there’s a lot of coupons out I read most frozen veggies will have more nutrients then fresh due to it being frozen right after being picked and fresh lays around a long time.  Plus a lot of times they pick produce for the grocery store before it’s ready that way it will have longer shelf life.

Puppies, Inmates and Soldiers Returning Home

 Puppies Behind Bars program

  • I just watched Oprah on Tivo and before the show was even over I had to run to my computer to share this heart felt story.  Oprah had five-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close on her show.  Glenn is a huge part of the Puppies Behind Bars program and they have started the DogTag program.

  • What is Puppies Behind Bars

  •
    • Prison inmates and puppies may seem like an unlikely duo, but through the Puppies Behind Bars Program they have teamed up to change the lives of disabled veterans, children and people with disabilities across the country.

What is the Dog Tag Program?

  the-dog-tags-program.jpg

  • More and more soldiers are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with disabling injuries be it they suffered a physical injury, traumatic brain injury (TBI) or exhibit Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  It makes it difficult to cope with the challenges of daily life. For this reason, Puppies Behind Bars has started the Dog Tag program.  Under the DogTags Program inmates train puppies to become service dogs for soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

The puppies live in prison with their incarcerated trainers. As the puppies mature into well-loved, well-behaved dogs, their raisers learn what it means to contribute to society, rather than take from it.

“This is one of the smartest things I heard in a long time.  I believe this can do wonders for  everybody involved.  I am so excited and moved over this it’s just amazing work being done.”   I ran to my computer and purchased one of these chew toys listed below right before writing this.  I am always looking for a super tuff toy for my dog anyway she’s a SPCA Mixed 1/2 Pit & 1/2 Boxer so she tears everything I don’t think she will tear this to quickly.  I am happy it will help support this program which is doing such marvelous work to help our country.

If your want to donate more or don’t have a dog and don’t need this toy then please go  donate another way.  They really need all of us to back this program up, it’s the least we can do for people who have severed our country.  I also think it’s one of the best smartest things they can do with the prisoners.  It’s helping them feel human again and some really for the first time ever.  By having unconditional love I believe they will be much better people when released.  If you have a chance to watch some of these videos please do so and pass them on.  You’ll be very moved I know I sure am.

Shopping Spree!  Enter until June 30, 2009

Just a quick note I wanted to mention.  If you happen to see a service dog please don’t try and touch or pet the dog.  The reason is they are working and we aren’t suppose to pet them like just your normal pet.  Please support this program and others programs similar to help our soldiers.  Thank you for reading and your support for our service men and women!
