COUPONS 101

Published by Laura at 9:35 am under Living on Less Can You Do it?, Saving tips Edit This

Can I really learn to use coupons? Yes, you can.

LEARNING

Learning to use coupons can be a lot of fun, but I know in the beginning it can also be pretty scary.  You may feel intimidated to even use coupons, you don’t want to hold the line up, and  you may even wonder what people will think of you.  If that’s not your concern then maybe it’s more of knowing where to start and wondering what are these people talking about, blinkies, Catalina’s, printable coupons and so on.  I know it can sound foreign and feel over whelming at times, but don’t worry you’ll learn quicker then you think, and it’s so worth it.

BE RESPECTFUL

Please always try and be respectful to others, customers and cashiers a like.  What did your momma always say, it’s better to take the high road even if they treat you rude first.  Don’t feel like your doing anything wrong by using coupons it’s your right, they make them for a reason and your the smart one for using them.  You should feel great and hold your head up high, because you’ve just saved your family a lot of money while that person being rude behind you blowing, doing the lip smacking or even the one who decides to pray “Oh God” while in-line behind you is just giving their hard earned money away.   Just smile and say have a good day and know that with the money your saving you can live a debt free life.

ALWAYS BE PREPARED

Make your list at home of the best deals, match your coupons

Also don’t try to do everything at once it’s ok to miss a couple deals even coupon queens miss a few sometimes.  Things to remember is your still saving more then you did before.  I should of heard this one when I first started, because I was in way over my head quick.  I thought I had to buy everything cause I had a coupon.   I know, I had to repeat that grade. ”lol” Don’t worry I got a C this time.. just kidding ;)

Spend More In The Beginning

You need to buy more to stock up.  Now only on the items that you’re saving money.  Example: Cereal - store has it on sale if you buy 3 boxes of Kelloggs at 3/$9 you get a gallon of store brand OJ FREE.  This would be a good deal.  To make it better you would have 3 $1 off cereal coupons:

EXAMPLE:        $9-$3 =$6

Plus you have a .50¢ off store brand OJ

      $6-.50¢ =$5.50

GRAND TOTAL  $5.50 for 3 boxes of cereal and 1 gallon of OJ.

Now if your family drinks a lot of OJ and eats a lot of cereal then you will want to go back and do this deal again right after you put your groceries in the car would be perfect, that is if you have more coupons.  Cereal normally cost around $4 a box now so this is a very good deal.  Can you get it even cheaper, yes sometimes.  Maybe you have .75¢ coupons and your store doubles anything up to .75¢ AKA mean all coupons .75¢ cents and under.  This would play out like this:

EXAMPLE:

     $9 - .75¢ X’s 2 = $1.50

      $1.50 X’s 3= $4.50

    .50¢ store OJ coupon X’s  2=$1.00

    $4.50 + $1.00= $5.50

Cereal $9 - Coupons $5.50=$3.50

GRAND TOTAL $3.50 for 3 boxes of cereal and 1 gallon of OJ at Double Coupon Store

Your normally not allowed to do this more then 1 time per day or per order so make sure you go back through again if you want more.  Don’t go too many times in the same day or they’ll tell you not to, plus you’ll draw attention to yourself and they may even  make you feel like your stealing.    Always leave some for others too, unless there are only enough for 1 deal then of course buy it.

More tips coming very soon.
