How to live on less without feeling deprived

Published by Laura

Three Important Concepts People Should Follow

(Found on Dr. Phil’s site)
1. Avoid Debt like the Plague
”People think that debt actually increases their lifestyle because they can buy the nice stuff, but in reality, you’ve got to pay for it eventually,” Annette says.

2. Live Below Your Means
Understanding how much income is coming in on a monthly basis is imperative. “It’s a numbers thing,” Annette says. “You look at your numbers, you look at your expenses and what you’re setting money aside for, and you know that the sum total has to be less than what you’re bringing home.” She adds that it’s much easier than people may think.

3. Embrace a Thrifty Lifestyle
Learn to enjoy the process of finding a good bargain, and realize that you can still enjoy life and have great experiences while living on a budget.

Secrets to Saving

  • Only Carry Cash
Operate on a cash system and don’t use credit. “If we don’t have the money for something, we don’t buy it,” says Annette.
  • Use Coupons
“They can save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars a year on your groceries,” Annette says. “I personally have saved thousands of dollars a year by using coupons! I’ll tell you all about it in a soon coming article I am going to write. Watch for it because I’ll give you the dos and don’t about coupons.”
  • Invest in a Freezer
“Freezers are a great tool. It allows you to stock up,” Steve says. The family often buys extra items they consume often, when they’re on sale, and freezes them to use at a later date.
  • Set Aside Money for Every Possible Expense
Create a budget and include unforeseen payments that may arise.
  • Buy Clothes at Thrift Stores
Go with a list; don’t just go to browse. When you find an item you like, check the item to make sure there are no spots or rips. “If there are stains, and you think they’re washable, ask for a discount,” Steve says. Thrift stores often have deal days, so make sure you’re at the store during those times to get better bargains.
  • Buy at Discount Prices
Shop at garage sales and online Web sites like eBay, Criagslist and Freecylce.

Here are more ways I save money, maybe you’ll use them too!

“links to all just click the colored words”

1.) To save on phone service we use our cellphones which are on a family plan.  We also invested in a Magic Jack, which we can use at home or when traveling.   I purchased it for a total of $49 which included 3 years of service.

2.) Keep cabinets in order.  Sounds easy which it is, but by doing so you’ll know what you have and you won’t waste money buying things you don’t need unless your getting it free or next to.

3.) Which brings me to stock piling.  I stock pile when items are either free or next to free.  This has saved my family thousands of dollars. I am even able to help family members and donate too.

4.) Use coupons the right way. I’ll show you in a later post what I mean about this.

5.)  Rent movies from Redbox.  We get them free or for as little as $1.09.  All the latest movies and very convenient.  Special site to get discount codes for Redbox Codes

6.) Eat at home - make my daughter’s lunch - eat left overs  - Plant a SMALL garden only as big as you can handle start out with a herb garden if your kind of scared or don’t have much room. Your food will taste so much better and it will cost you around 1/4 of what you’ll pay in the store.  Huge tip: buy your starters in the form of small plants it’s so much easier then seeds.  You’ll save time, money, “if they die” patience.

7.) If we do eat out it’s with a coupon. One great place to get discounts is  Restaurant .com the code is LUCKY 80% off (4/30). It’s only good until Thursday. Get a $25 restaurant certificate for $2!   I’ll add a new code when I get the new one.

8.  Save money by picking up all the freebies giving away in the week at my local stores.  Mostly drug stores like CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid sometimes others.  Check your fliers each weekend you’ll see lots of ways to get things for your family FREE!  This week it’s April 26TH at Walgreens you can get these items for FREE, except you’ll pay tax of course.   Ecotrin 45 count $2 - Nivea Body Wash $4.99 (coupon out from RP 4/19 $1 if you have the coupon you can make money) - Rembrandt Toothpaste or Mouthwash $5.99  You pay for the items then as you pay a machine will spit out a Catalina coupon with the purchase price on it.  You can then use this to buy another item, just don’t use it to buy the same item or it won’t print out another coupon. I save my catalina’s and use them the next week on what’s free that week.  Just keep rolling the same money over and over again.
